Everything has a soundtrack; why not your clogging life? After much debate, I came up with mine. It dates me, and I care not one bit! Curious to see what others come up with.
8. Walking On Sunshine (Katrina and the Waves)
This song SCREAMS happy! Reminds me of how a new clogger feels, falling in love with the dance. You do double toes EVERYWHERE - the grocery store, school hallways, the gas station, whatever.
(I did a quick search for my 5th or 6th grade clogging picture to add here, but was unable to locate it. Will post later if it turns up.)
7. Eye of the Tiger (Survivor)
This is my you-can-do-this song! Whether it's performing a new routine for the first time, putting on your game face for a clogging competition, or just getting through a performance that is difficult in some way (hot temperatures in the summer, tough crowd), this song will get you through!
6. Some Days You Gotta Dance (Dixie Chicks)
Not every day is worthy of a dance, BUT there are days when you just can't help it!
5. Walk On (Reba McEntyre)
If you do this clogging thing long enough, you'll deal with injuries and personal issues that keep you away from dance for a certain amount of time. Keep going, you'll find your way back!
This pic was taken the day my ortho doctor cleared me to return to weight bearing as tolerated after a hip injury kept me on a walker for 2 months (several years ago). The walker served me well, but I was happy to return her to the medical rental shop!
4. Shake It Off (Taylor Swift)
Whatever you do, somebody has somethin' negative to say about it. You may hear ridicule about the way you dance, or even that you dance at all. Let's blow those folks a kiss, "bless their hearts" in the southern sense, and get on with our lives!
3. We Danced (Brad Paisley)
Actually, I can't listen to this song anymore, ever since a former clogging team held a reunion show. I was honored to be part of it. The performance included a slideshow tribute to team members who had passed away. This song played in the background, leaving not a dry eye in the theater! I have since lost other teammates who were present at that show, including irrepressible Alice in the photo above. Their memories continue to provide me with tears, smiles, wisdom, and laughter in turn. I hope my memory does the same when I am gone...
2. On the Road Again (Willie Nelson)
Where's the next show? There are always festivals to explore, nursing homes in need of entertainment, fun dances, workshops, etc. Load up the car, let's go!
1. Thank You For Being a Friend (Cynthia Fee, Golden Girls theme song)
I've met some of the best friends of my life through clogging! THANK YOU to my clogging teammates past, present, and future, and to my friends from other clogging teams.
There you have it! Soundtrack is already prepared for the movie of my clogging life. I figure there's a 0.00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001% chance of this film being made someday, so it's best to be prepared.
What songs should be included in the soundtrack of YOUR dance life? (Or other hobby, for my non-dancing readers.)
